Macklemore and Ryan Lewis may be synonymous with each other due to the success of hits like “Thrift Shop,” “Can’t Hold Us,” and “Same Love,” but if this man on the streets sketch from the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is anything to go by, a fair few music fans still don’t quite understand exactly what Lewis does.
To his credit, Lewis has a good laugh over the countless Millenials he interacts with who, despite knowing he works with rapper Macklemore, don’t quite seem to know what he does.
“I don’t really know what he does,” says one guy about Lewis. “I know he’s like a package deal though — he comes with Macklemore a lot.”
“I always see him on stage when Macklemore’s performing,” says another. “It seems like he’s doing something with the computers and what not. I’ve got no clue though.”
A few of the music fans they approach can’t even recognize the award-winning producer even when he’s holding a photo of himself and Macklmore, asking if they can point out which one of the two is Ryan Lewis. Needless to say, the reaction from participants in the segment when they finally do catch on to the gag is priceless.
