You were promised at the end of Machete that Machete would return. Now, production is slated to begin on Machete Kills. Check out the synopsis and statement from Robert Rodriguez after the jump!

According to Deadline (via Slashfilm), production has been slated to begin and although Danny Trejo has not officially jumped on board yet, he is expected to star now that the film has been financed.

Is the story as overblown and hysterically ludicrous as the first? By the sound of the synopsis, yes.

The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy.

So what do you think? Will this sequel top the original (which of itself was based off a spoof trailer)?
