The first U.S. trailer looks pretty fantastic, and Fassbender looks like he’ll be one incredible Macbeth. The film was directed by Justin Kurzel, who said recently, “[It’s] a re-imagining of what wartime must have been like for one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition set in war-torn medieval Scotland.”

He says that the story reminded him a lot of a Western, with the landscapes and atmosphere, saying “It felt much more dangerous than I’d ever seen before from adaptations of Macbeth.”

Macbeth will be released in select theaters on December 4, 2015.

Macbeth’s official synopsis: “From the producers of The King’s Speech comes the feature film adaptation of Shakespeare’s play Macbeth about Scottish General Macbeth (Michael Fassbender) whose ambitious wife (Marion Cotillard) urges him to use wicked means in order to gain power of the throne over the sitting king.”
