New images of Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard starring in the film adaptation of Macbeth have been released, giving us a look at director Justin Kurzel’s Shakespeare adaptation.

Fassbender and Cotillard are playing Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in the new Shakespeare adaptation, which was directed by Justin Kurzel. It’s also been announced that Justin Kurzel will direct the pair of actors in Assassin’s Creed’s film adaptation as well.

Empire has released the new images from Macbeth, along with a few quotes from the film’s director. Check out the new images below, along with what Kurzel has to say about his Macbeth adaptation.

We’ve also included two older images from the movie which were released last year, in case any fans may have missed them. We see Fassbender standing out in a field, and the style of the film looks incredibly beautiful. Hopefully we’ll see the film get a wide release, so that we can enjoy some much-needed Shakespeare in the movie theater again.

While talking about Macbeth, Kurzel says that, “[It’s] a reimagining of what wartime must have been like for one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, a story of all-consuming passion and ambition set in war-torn medieval Scotland.”

He says that the story reminded him a lot of a Western, with the landscapes and atmosphere, saying “It felt much more dangerous than I’d ever seen before from adaptations of Macbeth.”

The film also stars Sean Harris, Paddy Considine, and David Thewlis. Macbeth will hit theaters in the U.K. this October, but has yet to set a release date for its U.S. release.
