Lyndsy Fonseca will return as fan-favorite Angie Martinelli in Agent Carter season 2 — but there’s a twist.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Fonseca will appear in a dream sequence that signals an emotional awakening for Peggy. Angie’s return will come in late in the 10-episode sophomore season, at a crucial moment for Agent Carter and her stalwart-ish companion Jarvis.

“Episode 8 ends with a cliffhanger where Peggy and Jarvis get in big trouble and are knocked out,” says executive producer Michele Fazekas. “Episode 9 begins with a dream sequence that starts in black and white.”

And this won’t just be any old metaphorical dream sequence. Agent Carter season 2 will channel legendary episodes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Scrubs, and break out into a full Broadway song-and-dance. Angie, Peggy’s closest friend (and frequent partner in online shipping arrangements) will serve as a centering force for Peggy though the power of performance.

“She’s [her] conscience and she’s speaking the things that Peggy maybe can’t say to herself,” Fazekas says. “It ties things back together from the first season and it’s connecting all of these things in a way that only a dream can do.”

Lyricist Dave Zippel and composer Christopher Lennertz wrote the original song with Fazekas and co-executive producer Tara Butters. The choreography was designed by Louis van Amstel of Dancing With the Stars, and the number will features many of the show’s dancers.

While it’s unfortunate that Lyndsey Fonseca won’t be returning regularly in Agent Carter season 2, it will be nice to see that Peggy has not forgotten her friend back in New York as she solves mysteries in California. And as an added bonus, Fazekas and Butters’ black-and-white to technicolor conception of the dream sequence will offer fans a new look at Peggy Carter.

Hayley Atwell, Fazekas teases, “was made for black and white. She looks like Rita Hayworth. She looks spectacular.”
