The comic book series Lumberjanes is officially getting the series adaptation treatment over at HBO Max!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max is currently in the process of developing a brand new animated series based on the Boom! Studios’ Lumberjanes.

Based on the Eisner winning comic book series of the same name created by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, and Brooklyn A. Allen, the series tells the story of five girls who set off to spend a summer at Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types, where attendees are known simply as Lumberjane Scouts.

Once there, Roanoke cabin dwellers Jo, April, Molly, Mal and Ripley find themselves bearing witness to supernatural phenomenons and coming face to face with strange supernatural creatures.

In a move that’s bound to excite fans of the series, co-creator Noelle Stevenson is on board to serve as writer and executive producer of the upcoming HBO Max adaptation.

Currently, the streamer plans to soft launch the adaptation with an animated special that would then give way into a full fledged series, with Stevenson set to direct both the special, and a handful of the episodes of the forthcoming series.

Stevenson is well equipped to spearhead the adaptation— and not just because she served as a co-creator on the actual comic book series. Previously, Stevenson served as showrunner on Netflix’s Award winning, hit animated series, She-Ra and the Princess of Power.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see Lumberjanes premiere via HBO Max.
