The Star Wars team is uniting the fandom, inviting them to support the light side of the Force and donate to charity.

Disney announced this morning that Lucasfilm is launching a charitable campaign for the on-going Star Wars: Force for Change charity drive.

Described as “an initiative that inspires people to make a positive impact on the world,” Force For Change has already raised more than $10,000,000 through the Star Wars fan community.

The new campaign was announced by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and Star Wars actor Mark Hamill, via video. Watch it below:

Hamill of course can’t miss an opportunity to poke a little fun at The Force Awakens, staring intensely at the screen and feigning confusion at the fact that he actually has dialogue in this video!

Starting today, on April 5, the Star Wars: Force for Change campaign has pledged to match the donations of Star Wars fans to four select charities, up to $1,000,000.

The four charities participating in this drive are the American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and UNICEF USA.

Writes Disney in a press release:

“Over the course of the four-week period, which culminates at 11:59pm (PST) on May 4th, fans will be able to donate through CrowdRise.com/ForceForChange to these four charities and have their donations matched dollar for dollar up to $1,000,000.

During the first week, the first 20 fans to raise or donate at least $500 will win a Blu-ray of The Force Awakens signed by the cast, with more incentives to come. All participants who enter will also have a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to Ireland, including Skellig Michael along the Wild Atlantic Way, the location of the dramatic final scene from The Force Awakens.”

Each week, new prizes will be revealed for those contributing to the charity campaign.

So what are you waiting for?! Use the Force for good, and head on over to Crowd Rise to donate to this fantastic cause.
