In American Hustle, Louis C.K.’s character tells an ice fishing story, but never gets to finish. According to the comedian, it actually did have an ending.

C.K.’s role isn’t very large in American Hustle, but it is important. As the FBI boss of Bradley Cooper’s Richie DiMaso character, who doesn’t approve of the actions DiMaso is taking, C.K.’s Stoddard Thorsen spends a lot of time trying to impart wisdom on the younger agent. This wisdom comes in the form of an ice fishing story, a story that never gets finished due to the constant interruptions from Cooper’s character.

As C.K. explained on his recent visit to The Tonight Show, his role originally wasn’t as big as it turned out to be in the movie. It appears that director David O. Russell realized that he had a great storyteller on his hands, so together they created the ice fishing story.

C.K. also revealed that the story did have an ending that ultimately got cut from the final version of the film. It certainly is an unexpected ending. Here’s the video clip where the ending is revealed.

As it turns out, the brother defecated on the ice. Well then. The ending certainly would have been good for some laughs, but without knowing what would happen after the reveal, we’d have to say that its omission was probably for the best. Cooper interrupting C.K. worked well for the construction of both their characters.

What do you think of the end of the ‘American Hustle’ ice fishing story?
