The Lost Years of Merlin has added two new writers to the film based on T.A. Barron’s novel of the same name.

According to Variety, Dave Hill from Game of Thrones and David Farr from Hanna will co-write the script for The Lost Years of Merlin, which recently added Barron as a writer as well.

Hill is best known for his work on Game of Thrones, having worked as an assistant to Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Farr, on the other hand, worked as a screenwriter for Hanna, as well as select episodes of the TV show MI-5.

Hill is an obvious choice to add as a writer for this film given his experience on Thrones. While the tone of the movie will be different than the show, and will undoubtedly be aimed at a different demographic, the setting of Thrones should lend itself to The Lost Years of Merlin.

Warner Bros. has pitched The Lost Years of Merlin as the next major franchise to succeed Harry Potter. The original series contains five books detailing Merlin’s journey to finding his powers. If the first movie is a success, there’s no doubt that they’ll try to adapt each novel.

A brief synopsis is as follows:

The film will trace Merlin’s journey from being a boy washed on the shores of Wales with no memory and no home, to him becoming a young man learning to use his powers and ultimately defender of the natural world and eventual mentor to King Arthur.

You can read an interview Hypable conducted with the author of the series where he talked about what it was like to help with the screenplay for the book-to-film adaptation of his novel.

Barron’s new book, Atlantis Rising, will release in September. Look for our review of the novel closer to the release date!
