Former Lost showrunner Damon Lindelof is returning to television following Prometheus, and now his new project has been revealed! He will produce The Leftovers, based on the book by Tom Perrotta.

Deadline reports that Lindelof will produce The Leftovers for HBO, in association with WBTV.

The series is based on the 2011 book by Tom Perrotta; the author will join Lindelof as a writer and executive producer on the series.

The book description reads:

What if — whoosh, right now, with no explanation — a number of us simply vanished?  Would some of us collapse? Would others of us go on, one foot in front of the other, as we did before the world turned upside down? That’s what the bewildered citizens of Mapleton, who lost many of their neighbors, friends and lovers in the event known as the Sudden Departure, have to figure out. Because nothing has been the same since it happened—not marriages, not friendships, not even the relationships between parents and children.

Lindelof and Perrotta will write the pilot of the series together. Pick-up is not guaranteed of course, but hopefully we’ll get to see the show get made!
