Today is 4/8/15, and at 16:23:42, the infamous Lost digits will finally align.

It’s been 11 years since Lost first aired on ABC, and it’s been just shy of five years since its finale (May 23, 2010).

We’re never hard-pressed to find an “anniversary” for this iconic series, but today marks a very special occasion, one which will only happen twice (yes, twice) in this century: the numbers finally align.

The numbers, of course, are: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. The seemingly innocuous sequence was what Hurley used to win the lottery, what Desmond typed into the computer in the Hatch, and ultimately what in some pseudo-cosmic way brought the characters to the Island.

And today, in America, the date is 4/8/15 (April 8, 2015). At 4 p.m. this afternoon (which is 16:00 in military time), 23 minutes and 42 seconds past the hour, we’ve got all the numbers lined up at last.

It’s 4 (month), 8 (day), 15 (year), 16 (hours), 23 (minutes), and 42 (seconds). It adds up to 108, guys! Which… isn’t part of this equation.

This special twice-in-a-lifetime occurrence, of course, will happen again in August. Because for most of the rest of the world, the dates are lined up day-month-year, so today is actually 8/4/15. That’s why there’s another Lost day coming up! But we suppose this is the official day, seeing as the show was made in America and all.

So what does this all mean? Much like the numbers themselves, not really all that much. We’re not expecting some huge announcement or revelation — although we wouldn’t say no to a proper explanation for the Donkey Wheel — but it’s just a cool chance to remember the series.

Just… don’t say the numbers out loud. Or play the lottery with them. Not that we’re superstitious or anything, but it didn’t work out all that well for Hurley.

…Or did it? Hmmmmm. We may need to re-think the whole “the numbers are bad” thing.

Happy ‘Lost’ day, everyone!
