Carlton Cuse, one half of the showrunner team behind ABC’s smash hit series Lost, is returning to the network with a massive multi-year deal.

Via The Wrap, Carlton Cuse is returning to ABC after a stint at USA, where he served as executive producer on the Josh Holloway drama Colony. He has also worked on A&E’s Bates Motel and FX’s The Strain, and is currently developing a Locke & Key pilot for Hulu.

Cuse’s new ABC deal is described as “massive,” and will span content across all ABC Studios platforms. Cuse and his production company Genre Arts will have their hands full with multiple projects, collaborating with Marvel and Disney and supervising other writers.

ABC Studios president Patrick Moran says in a statement that they are looking forward to re-teaming with Cuse and “bringing his signature creativity back to our studio.”

While Damon Lindelof is usually credited as the primary showrunner on Lost since he originally developed the pilot with J.J. Abrams, Cuse — his former mentor — was equally influential in designing the over-arching mythology and plotting out the show as it went along.

Carlton Cuse says of the ABC deal:

“It is with great pleasure that I am returning to ABC Studios, my happy home for six years during Lost. I am very excited to be working alongside wonderful and iconic Disney brands like Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm to create and bring entertaining and compelling stories to the screen.”

This announcement comes a few days after news broke that Shonda Rhimes is ending her partnership with ABC to produce content for Netflix, and clearly shows ABC’s commitment to partnering with strong and distinct television voices.
