At the end of last week’s Looking, Kevin made his choice. But is this relationship the right move for Patrick?

Let’s face it, anyone who makes meaningful eye contact with Patrick can guarantee that by the time they say hello to the guy, he has their whole lives mapped out. That’s just how Patrick is, for better or worse.

From the start Kevin had two very large strikes against him. One, Kevin was Patrick’s boss. Two, Kevin was in a committed long-distance relationship. One of those strikes is still very prominent in their current situation. The other may be recently erased, but the faint outline of that lingering long term relationship remains.

Kevin and Patrick stumbled upon their chemistry in a less-than-ideal situation. Conversation flowed easily, mutual attraction was undeniable, and Kevin’s flirtatious behavior, at first, was never anything more than a way to toy with Patrick. Patrick from the start was looking for any distraction to deter his attention from defining his role in Richie’s life, and Kevin was the perfect distraction. At home there were too many questions, what is right, what is wrong, what can he say, and what can’t he say — Patrick thought too much and felt too little.

But at work, with Kevin, those questions felt irrelevant. At work both parties thought too little and felt too much. In more ways than one Patrick and Kevin were reaching for anything they could hold onto. Before Patrick could surface for air, the situation escalated from a drunken wedding kiss, to one time office hookup, to secret rendezvous whenever they could find the time. Patrick was in too deep.

And so was Kevin. It is hard to ignore the couple’s onscreen chemistry and easy to ignore Kevin’s prior commitments. That is until he checks his phone or steals away from Patrick lest his other half catch on.

While we are eager to proclaim that it is too much too soon after Kevin’s break up and even too little too late for Patrick, we want to believe this will last. As Patrick ran Richie through the emotional ringer, Kevin did the same to Patrick and we watched every heart breaking face Patrick could muster up in the weeks after. Both of them made their mistakes and now face the baggage their new relationship brings.

Oh, baggage be damned, look at his face!

Sure, there is still the possibility that things will head south quickly. Patrick has a tendency to get wrapped up in his own head, but from what we’ve seen with Kevin, he has a way to balance out Patrick’s many, many neuroses.

This week on Looking season 2, episode 8, Patrick and Kevin will introduce their relationship to the work team. Only a few weeks after Kevin finally invited his boyfriend into the office space, he now faces the office with another man at his side. Hints of favoritism may result due to their interoffice romance, but more threatening to the environment reinvigorating the tension between the duo, should they call it quits.

For the present, however, we wish them well.
