Everyone is testing the waters on tonight’s Looking season 2, episode 3. Find out what is working and what isn’t in our recap of “Looking from Top to Bottom.”

A lot can change in 28 hours. Grudges can vanish, illusions may be shattered, and new romances can begin to take shape. The status of Kevin and Patrick’s relationship has not changed, except for the minor detail of how many people are privy to knowing about it. Their chemistry is undeniable, which makes us wonder, can this relationship only work if Kevin keeps one toe dipped in another pool?

If this story were to play out with Kevin leaving his long time partner John, Patrick would most likely become more of a chattering, nervous disaster. He would inevitably make one too many references to Kevin “doing this for him,” and not for himself, and the entire relationship, including their work balance, would crumble. It’s not ideal for either of them to keep their relationship under wraps, but it is what works for the right now.

At the mention of Richie, whom Agustîn pays a visit to, Patrick panics about what his next move should be. Agustîn merely wanted to thank Richie for helping him out when he had no reason to extend so much as a passing glance. The bigger issue with this encounter is that Agustîn is slyly trying to get back into controlling Patrick’s dating life. When he first met Richie, he made his opinion known, loudly. But now, Patrick should keep his options open for a “test run” with Richie.

In the meantime, however, Patrick prepares for his first night where he has Kevin all to himself. Opting to join Patrick and his friends for Dom’s rugby match, the couple decide to first stop for a pint to subdue their nerves. The comfort that exists in Patrick and Kevin’s conversation easily guides their talk from childhood board games, to Kevin’s mom leaving the family, to Kevin’s Visa expiring in two years and the possibility of marriage being his only option to stay in the country.

Tabling the marriage talk, Kevin is thrown into the lion’s cage that is Doris, Agustîn, and Eddie. Unsurprisingly, he folds into their group without a hiccup. He talks to Eddie about John, starts a chant for Dom, and even steals away with Patrick to make out under the bleachers.

Lynn may be older, more experienced, and business savvy, but that attitude is what keeps him at a distance with Dom. After spending the night at Dom’s subpar apartment, he makes it a point at breakfast to try to coerce Dom into taking a manager position at an upscale restaurant. Though it is not entirely clear at breakfast, news travels fast in the Castro, and Dom finds out that Lynn set up the meeting as a job interview rather than a potential investment meeting.

Agustîn talks his way into staying with Eddie to give Kevin and Patrick the apartment for the night. While the two may have a few kinks to work out, such as Kevin finding the “Do Not Disturb” feature on his iPhone, they get along just fine when it comes time to hit the bed.

Stray Observations:

•Doris and Malik are the best couple on Looking right now. If there is any relationship you should be rooting for, it is this girl and her new fling.

•Eddie wanted a steamy locker room scene after the match. He may not have gotten it, but we certainly did.
