Looking‘s second season is in need of a major boost of energy and there is only one person to call for the job: Doris.

It’s time for Looking to call in the big guns and give the show a much needed boost of energy. For a show that focuses on the lives of three gay males in San Francisco, it seems odd that it takes Doris, a straight woman, to carry the burden of providing entertainment value. Her brief scenes as a series regular remind viewers why she got the promotion after season 1. Doris and Dom have chemistry, whether in Zumba class or chatting over breakfast about The View, and Doris can read Dom like a book, knowing when to give in and when to tell him to grow up. Their conversations provide a bit of levity that balances the more serious topics being discussed.

Beyond being roommates and childhood friends, Doris and Dom’s relationship is possibly the only one worth caring about on Looking. In season 1 alone, Doris pushed Dom to confront the demons of his past, namely an ex-beau with a meth problem, and was there to make fun of his wickedly bad rebound guy when he returned. She may seem wild and a bit crazy, but next to Patrick she is one of the core group who actually has her life together. She is a nurse, her finances are under control, and she is even dipping her toe in the dating pool this season with Malik. (Another character with more charisma than the entire group combined.)

She also knows Dom almost better than he knows himself. Neither Patrick or Agustîn can see what Dom is going through with Lynn. Their own problems take precedence over checking in on their friend since he seems to be doing just fine on the surface. Dom has a purpose driving him beyond a romantic entanglement, so we need to get Dom away from the drama of Patrick and Agustîn’s lives and set him on track to open his restaurant. That’s why we need a healthy dose of Doris and Dom to liven up season 2.

So where is Doris?

So far this season on Looking, the only shots of Doris come in group settings. However, the second half of Looking‘s second season holds some promise. The first episode to return in March, “Looking for Plot,” does not refer to a much-needed search for something to actually happen on the show, but rather a plot of land for a burial. Dom and Doris return home for a funeral giving the two, hopefully, an entire episode worth of screen time.

Watch Looking season 2, episode 6, “Looking for Gordon Freeman,” Sunday, February 22 at 10:00 p.m. ET on HBO.
