Looking fans will finally get some closure this summer when the series finale movie airs on HBO.

Set your DVRs, mark your calendars, and make sure you have a strong cocktail on hand, Looking will air the movie-length conclusion Saturday, July 23 at 10:00 p.m. ET.

Jonathan Groff took some time off this past summer from his reign as King George to film the conclusion of another chapter of his life. HBO’s short-lived dramedy, Looking, followed Groff’s lead character, Patrick and his two best friends, Agustín and Dom. Together, and apart, the trio navigate their love lives, put their friendships through the wringer, all while finding their place in the melting pot of gay culture, San Francisco.

Much to loyal followers of the show’s dismay, Looking did not receive a third season from HBO. An explanation from HBO can be found here.

So where are we? What will we see from Patrick, Dom, Agustín, and fan-favorite Doris? At the end of season 2, Patrick’s love life was at a crossroads and an old flame, Richie, welcomed Patrick back into his confidence. Whether or not a haircut was all that came out of that meeting remains to be seen. Dom and Doris were at odds as friendship and business proved to be a lethal combination. But Doris’ amazing boyfriend Malik assured Dom that he and Doris would be just fine. And what about Agustín? After spiraling out of control, he finally has a steady, rewarding job and a great guy, but his fear of being with someone who has HIV is an ever present hurdle in his way to happiness.

When the movie airs there will be one huge change that these stories will need to address — the series will flash forward one year. According to the press release, Patrick returns to San Francisco after one year away. This opens up a plethora of new questions about his love life, his professional life, and the state of his friendships. What is the momentous occasion he is returning for? Leave your best guess in comments!
