Looking may not have had the ratings to secure a third season, but HBO’s president Michael Lombardo released some information on the planned movie.

Call up the understudy, Jonathan Groff may be needing to take a hiatus from the Broadway smash Hamilton this fall as HBO prepares to film the conclusion to its recently cancelled series Looking.

At today’s Television Critics Association presentation, HBO president Michael Lombardo explained that the network’s decision to cancel the series was not made lightly. Ratings and the show’s performance on Sunday nights following Girls and the new Russo brothers series Togetherness were not enough to justify a third season of the show.

Lombardo commented on the series, saying, “I thought the show, creatively, was really doing something that I hadn’t seen on any other show, particularly dealing with gay lives.”

He continued, “As a gay man, in particular, I was very proud that there was a show that felt like it was dealing very honestly and openly with gay men and their lives, without putting them into a comedic mode.”

Rather than end the series ahead of its time, Lombardo requested that a two hour wrap up (essentially half of a series order) be made to tie up the loose ends of Patrick, Dom, and Agustîn’s lives. Lombardo added, “There were some fans that really wanted to find a finale for the story lines and [the writers] wanted to wrap up storytelling for the characters.”

Some questions we hope are answered include:

•What became of Dom’s restaurant?
•What does Doris’ best life look like?
•Are Agustîn and Eddie really meant to be?
•And the ultimate fan question… Kevin or Richie?

Stay tuned for Looking‘s two-hour film to arrive early 2016.
