Looking For Alaska author John Green announced on Twitter Wednesday evening that the book-to-film adaptation of his first YA novel will be helmed by Rebecca Thomas.

According to IMDb, Thomas is a relatively new director. Of the three projects she’s helmed, one is feature-length: 2012’s Electrik Children starring Julia Garner, Liam Aiken, Billy Zane.

Said Green on today’s announcement:

Added producer Wyck Godfrey:

If this feels like déjà vu, you have a good memory. Green actually announced a different director for Looking For Alaska on June 25, 2014 — Yes, in a strange twist of fate, it’s been one year almost to the day since we learned that Sarah Polley was going to write and helm the film. Hypable reached out to Paramount for an explanation when it was starting to look like Polley was off the project in February, but the studio didn’t want to comment.

It’s completely normal for a studio to change creative plans for a film as they move through pre-production, so this shouldn’t be a bad sign by any means. Actually, quite the contrary: In February Paramount tasked the same team who wrote The Fault in Our Stars and next month’s Paper Towns with handling Alaska: Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. In other words, the third John Green book-to-film adaptation is in very good hands.

Expect Looking For Alaska to hit theaters in 2016, as Godfrey teased on Twitter earlier this month:

Looking For Alaska is considered one of Green’s best books, so we’re very much looking forward to the story hitting the big screen.
