Looking for Alaska casting has narrowed down the finalists for the lead character Miles Halter to Descendants star Mitchell Hope (above left) and Charlie Rowe (right).

On the eve of John Green’s second book to movie adaptation release, casting news comes for his third!

A little background on the two actors: Charlie Rowe, most recently known as a finalist for the latest Spider Man reboot, also starred in the cancelled ABC series Red Band Society. Mitchell Hope currently stars in the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie The Descendants as Prince Ben, the son of Belle and the Beast.

The Looking For Alaska character Miles Halter, soon to be referred to as “Pudge,” is in search of “The Great Perhaps.” Attending Culver Creek Preparatory High School in Alabama, Pudge finds himself entranced by another student Alaska Young. In perhaps the most famous of Green’s lines, Pudge describes her saying, “if people were rain, then I was a drizzle and she was a hurricane.” The novel is split into two parts, “Before” Alaska disappeared and “After” she left.

The lead actress race is also nearing the finish line. According to the report Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) is the current favorite for the role of Alaska, but Immy Waterhouse is also being considered. Two other unnamed actresses are also in the running for the role.

The Looking for Alaska film adaptation has been a long time coming — The rights to the movie were sold nearly ten years ago. Riding the coat tails of The Fault in Our Stars and the soon-to-be-success Paper Towns, Looking for Alaska started moving full steam ahead in early 2015.

Writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, and producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen, will once again come together to create Looking for Alaska with Green staying on as a producer. Rebecca Thomas will direct the film.
