I knew I was going to like Long Shot. I didn’t expect Iris and August to plant themselves so firmly in my heart, but I probably should have. Kennedy Ryan will have that effect on you.

About ‘Long Shot’

A FORBIDDEN LOVE SET IN THE EXPLOSIVE WORLD OF THE NBA…

Think you know what it’s like being a baller’s girl?
You don’t.
My fairy tale is upside down.
A happily never after.
I kissed the prince and he turned into a fraud.
I was a fool, and his love – fool’s gold.
Now there’s a new player in the game, August West.
One of the NBA’s brightest stars.
Fine. Forbidden.
He wants me. I want him.
But my past, my fraudulent prince, just won’t let me go.

‘Long Shot’ book review

Iris and August’s story felt so authentic and realistic that I couldn’t help but be sucked into their chemistry and their frustration that their circumstances kept them apart for so long. Our real world presents so many challenges to finding lasting love, that seeing this couple fight to someday be in the right place for their chance at a future was satisfying in a way you don’t always find in romance.

Iris is one hell of a heroine. She suffers some of the most inhumane and terrifying treatment that I have ever read, but somehow manages to hold fast to the woman she is deep inside. She carries the strength of her Mimi and Lotus with her throughout her horrific ordeal, despite having been cut off from everything she holds dear.

I could not wish for a more incredible heroine to recommend to every reader in the world. I hope that every 18 year old woman out there reads this book and sees an example of how this can happen to anyone, and that you can have a good life after. The horror does not have to be the end.

August has the patience of a supernatural being in this story. I don’t know how he managed to continue to wait for Iris to be ready for him, but the wholesome integrity that he puts on display page after page is a tribute to the men that help women heal after escaping their oppressors. Without knowing exactly what Iris endures, he manages to read her so incredibly well that he acts on her time, not his.

I am beyond moved by this story. I know that women are suffering abuses just like Iris’, but putting myself in her shoes and experiencing those horrors through her eyes opened mine more than ever before.

This book is chock full of incredible characters and I loved seeing them come to life and tell the story they needed to tell. I am always excited when Kennedy Ryan tackles issues that we need to talk more about. It reminds me to use my voice to speak for those who are silenced, in whatever way that may be.

Thank you Kennedy for bringing Iris and August to my world. They now own a piece of my heart.
