This morning Disney released The Lone Ranger trailer which stars Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, and Helena Bonham Carter.

The film follows “Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Depp) as he recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice.” See the trailer below:

The story is a visual treat and looks to be a wonderful period piece. Directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean, Rango), The Lone Ranger first appeared on serialized radio in 1933, and has had several incarnations since then. As previously mentioned, production has had a tumultuous beginning, as Disney cut production costs from $250 million down to $200 million.

In addition to Depp and Hammer in the lead roles, the film stars Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton), Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter), Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan), Ruth Wilson (Anna Karenina), and William Fichtner (The Dark Knight). The Lone Ranger is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer through his Jerry Bruckheimer Films banner.

Building up to the trailer’s release, a teaser poster was released yesterday. The film will be in theaters July 3, 2013. Has The Lone Ranger piqued your interest? We’ll continue to cover it as we approach its summer release date.
