Logan Lerman, star of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and the Percy Jackson franchise, has joined the likes of Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf in the WWII movie Fury.

From the press release:

FURY is set at the very end of World War II, in April 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theater, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

According to Deadline, “Lerman will play Norman Ellison, an Army typist and the youngest and most inexperienced member of the crew who is thrust into being a tank gunner.”

Fury is quite a departure from Lerman’s more popular films, which include The Perks of Being a Wallflower, in which he starred opposite Emma Watson, and both Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. The latter movie will be released on August 7.

The last film that saw Brad Pitt in Nazi Germany was Inglourious Basterds, where he played Lt. Aldo Raine, leader of the Basterds and a man feared by the Germans due to his ruthlessness. There’s no word yet on whether or not Pitt’s role in Fury will be quite as charismatic. His latest film, World War Z, will release on June 21 of this year.

LaBeouf is known for his starring roles in the Transformers franchise. His most recent film was The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, released at the Sundance Film Festival in January. There’s no word yet on which specific character he will portray in Fury, only that he will be one of the crew members.

Filming on Fury will commence sometime in the fall, with a late 2014 release date on the table.
