X-Men spinoff Gambit may have just found its leading lady in actress Lizzy Caplan.

Variety reports that Masters of Sex star Lizzy Caplan is officially in talks to join the cast of the long awaited Gambit movie.

Unfortunately, fans who’ve been closely monitoring production on the X-Men spinoff will have to wait a bit longer to get details on Caplan’s forthcoming role. Specifics of who she’ll play are being kept firmly under wraps for now.

The upcoming X-Men spinoff will feature Channing Tatum as the film’s titular mutant, with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski taking the reigns on the high profile Fox production.

In the comics, Gabit is a member of the Thieves Guild who eventually joins up with the X-Men. He has the ability to control kinetic energy, a power he uses to wield playing cards as weapons which he then projectiles toward his opponents.

In the X-Men cinematic universe, we got our first glimpse of Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That being said, it was Friday Night Lights alumn Taylor Kitsch, and not Tatum, who portrayed the mutant in the 2009 blockbuster.

Tatum’s forthcoming spinoff has been in development for a few years, but it’s had a bit of an unlucky streak in terms of making its way to the silver screen. Most notably, the film has passed hands between a few directors including Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt before finally landing in the lap of Verbinski.

Despite its lengthy time in pre-production, the fact that the film is in the midst of casting key players such as Caplan means fans can look forward to seeing the spinoff hit theaters sooner rather than later.

Currently, Fox is looking to release Gambit in theaters on February 14, 2019.
