News broke that Melissa McCarthy is in talks to be Ursula for the live-action reboot of The Little Mermaid, but Lizzo wants to be considered.

Disney’s all in on the live-action reboot train, and their latest endeavor is The Little Mermaid. While it’s officially been reported that Melissa McCarthy is in talks for the role of the villain Ursula, Lizzo took to social media to explain that she is the one and only Ursula option out there.

As Deadline reports, Lizzo (whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson) has only one acting credit from an episode of the 2017 series The Memestar Chronicles. However, after checking out the video she posted of her decked out as Ursula and belting out “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” we’re pretty sure you’ll put aside any doubts you may have about her acting chops and be on the “Lizzo MUST BE Ursula” train like we are.

Before you bemoan “what could have been,” it’s important to know that talks of McCarthy’s running for Ursula are just reports at this stage. So for now, anyway, anything is possible!

Just like with Disney’s other live-action adaptations, the film will have all of the original songs from Alan Menken and Howard Ashman with a few new additions. For The Little Mermaid, Menken will be teaming with Lin-Manuel Miranda to create some new tunes for the film.

The Little Mermaid live-action reboot doesn’t yet have a release date, but we’re really excited to see how this movie shapes up. And we can’t help but hope that the powers that be take a peek at Lizzo’s video and maybe make a few tweaks to their original casting plans. After all, Lizzo and album Cuz I Love You has been eating up the charts so she would be a stellar addition to the film, right?

We’ll keep you posted as more news breaks on the Little Mermaid live-action reboot, and we’ll all keep our fingers crossed to maybe see Lizzo dazzle the big screen as our favorite, fabulous, purple villainess!
