Update (2/28/2020): Hilary Duff is once again speaking out about the Lizzie McGuire revival, following rumors that the highly anticipated forthcoming series might not be family friendly enough to air via Disney+.

Disney+ found themselves in a bit of hot water yesterday when Lizzie herself, Hilary Duff, hinted that the real reason the studio put the breaks on the Lizzie McGuire revival is because the series might be a little too risqué for the streamer’s wholesome family friendly schtick.

While Duff offered no further explanation with regards to the comments she made via her Instagram stories on Wednesday (February 26), the actress is certainly not shying away from speaking out on the matter further.

In fact, Duff took to Instagram yet again on Friday (February 28) to shed further light on the Lizzie McGuire revival/Disney+ debacle.

In a text post published to her feed, Hilary Duff asks Disney to consider moving Lizzie McGuire revival over to Hulu so that series won’t have to worry about being stifled by the family friendly guidelines of Disney+.

“Was incredibly excited to launch Lizzie on D+ and my passion remains! However, I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans’ relationship with LIZZIE who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her. I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30 year old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating. It’s important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/ teenager navigating live were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable,” said Duff. “It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, fi they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again.”

There’s no denying that Hilary Duff makes some great points about why Lizzie in her 30s should be so restricted. And if the online outcry is anything to go by, there’s no denying that fans of the original series would prefer a revival that doesn’t sugar coat whatever problems Lizzie might be facing as a grown up millennial.

So here’s hoping Disney takes Hilary Duff’s plea to move the series over to Hulu into consideration— and re-hires Terri Minsky to spearhead the project while they’re at it!

Original Story (2/26/2020):

Could Disney+ be reconsidering it’s Lizzie McGuire revival because the contents aren’t family friendly enough? That seems to be the hot rumor du jour!

Fans looking forward to Disney+’s Lizzie McGuire revival were slapped with some pretty bad news earlier this year when it was revealed that original series creator Terri Minsky had exited the project after completing just two episodes.

At the time, not much was said about Minsky and Disney parting ways. But now, it’s looking like the showrunner left Lizzie because she and Disney+ did not share the same vision for the show.

Specifically, it’s looking like perhaps Lizzie McGuire in her 30s might just be too much for the Disney streamer to handle.

Rumors that the revival might be too risqué for the streamer started swirling after series star, Hilary Duff, took to Instagram stories on Wednesday (February 26) to comment recent developments regarding the Love, Simon spinoff.

Now titled Love, Victor, Disney announced earlier this week that they’d decided to move the spinoff to Hulu after the series was deemed not family friendly enough for the streaming platform.

In her stories, Duff shared a screenshot of a recent headline concerning the Love, Victor news, adding her own comment of “sounds familiar…”

Given that production on the Lizzie McGuire revival has been at a standstill since Minksy’s exit, it didn’t take long for the internet to put the pieces together.

Duff has offered no further comments on the matter.

Meanwhile, in a new interview with Variety, Minsky shared a few more details with regards to the two episodes that were filmed prior to her exit. The showrunner also made a strong case for why Hulu might actually be the perfect home for the Lizzie McGuire revival after all.

“Hilary has a grasp of Lizzie McGuire at 30 that needs to be seen. It’s a wonderful thing to watch. I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing,” Minsky told Variety. “That’s the part where I am completely in the dark. It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.”

It’s incredibly disheartening to hear that we may never get to see Minsky and Duff’s vision for Lizzie at 30 come to life. At the same time, if Disney+ does decide to move the revival to Hulu, we’re hoping they can somehow patch things up and bring Minsky back to give us the grown up version of Lizzie McGuire we deserve.
