There’s been a major shake-up behind the scenes over at the upcoming Lizzie McGuire revival set to debut via Disney+.

Disney Channel fans far and wide flipped last summer when Disney+ announced plans to revive Lizzie McGuire.

Armed with original cast members and the original creative team, the forthcoming revival seemed to be what dreams are made of.

Unfortunately, now we’re learning that production on the project has hit a bit of a snag.

According to Variety, original series creator Terri Minsky, who was set to serve as showrunner and executive producer on the revival, has officially exited the project.

In a statement confirming the news, a Disney spokesperson offered up some more details with regards to Minsky’s exit.

“Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series. After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”

The fact that Minsky has left due to creative differences is incredibly interesting— especially given that when the series was first announced, it sounded as though there was a clear plan with regards to where to take Lizzie’s story next.

The series, which started filming in November 2019, is currently without a showrunner as a replacement has yet to be named.

Here’s hoping production on the Lizzie McGuire revival gets back on track soon!
