‘The Lizzie Bennet Diaries’ Weekly recap

Lizzie’s video: “Insomnia”

Lizzie makes a late-night update, as she is having trouble sleeping after the unpleasant excitement of Lydia’s video. She expresses her heartfelt thanks to whoever arranged the site’s closure (Charlotte “has no leads”… or at least, is not sharing them with Lizzie) and says that Lydia will be okay, though she is taking some time away from the camera.

Jane (the world’s most gorgeous insomniac) joins Lizzie and admits that she has not been following her recent videos. Lizzie fills her in: Pemberly Digital was “nice”… oh, and Bing was there. Jane is surprised, to put it lightly, and flustered in that beautiful Jane way of hers to hear that Bing asked about her. She and Lizzie are both disappointed that Bing has not called Jane as per Lizzie’s advice, though Jane is glad that Lizzie told her; “Keeping secrets isn’t really that helpful, is it?” Lizzie ruefully agrees. She observes to the camera that her excellent communication skills with the Internet have recently not extended to her sisters, and goes back to bed.

Lizzie’s video: “Something Lighter… Please”

Lizzie resolves to move away from the “angst-fest” of her recent diaries, though her decision is immediately challenged by an unexpected entrance from none other than Bing Lee. It turns out that Bing has watched some of Lizzie’s videos, including the most recent installment, and wants to talk to Jane. Lizzie confronts Bing about allowing himself to be talked into breaking things off, angrily asking what Jane’s supposed “indiscretion” at his party was all about. “I don’t know,” Bing says. “I haven’t asked her. Bing sits awkwardly in front of the camera (no longer a stand-in for Charlotte) until Lizzie comes back and says that Jane doesn’t want to come down – but give her a call sometime if he’s going to be in town. Disappointed, Bing prepares to leave… just as Jane enters. Lizzie squeezes awkwardly between the two previous-soulmates to turn off the camera.

Back by herself, Lizzie says that she didn’t get to see much of the interaction herself. Jane comes back and tells Lizzie that her conversation with Bing was largely drama-free, and they agreed that, while they cannot pick up right where they left off, she and Bing will try to start fresh – as friends. “If he hurts you again, tell him that I will kick his ass,” Lizzie says. “Not until after I kick it first,” New Jane replies, and laughs. Once by herself, Lizzie picks up a flowery bag Bing left behind, which turns out – poignantly – to be full of snickerdoodles.

The world of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries has folded back down to its two-entries-per-week format (Pemberly Digital apparently concluded last week, and it doesn’t look like Lydia will be in the vlogging mood for a while) but you can still get your Bennet fix here on Hypable. Check out our recent interview with LBD transmedia producer Jay Bushman, as well as our in-depth discussions with Lizzie herself, actress Ashley Clements, and Mary Kate Wiles, the transformational Lydia.
