Welcome to Sanditon, the Lizzie Bennet Diaries webseries spin-off has launched its very first episode – what did you think? Discuss now with fellow fans.

The very first episode of Welcome to Sanditon has landed. Last time we saw her, Gigi Darcy (Allison Paige) was on her way to Sanditon, California, ready to test Pemberley Digital’s Domino application in a community setting. So in this very first installment, what has Gigi been up to?

Episode 1: Home Away From Home

For her first video from sunny Sanditon, Gigi reports back to Darcy about settling in to her new job via the Domino application. As always, Gigi is enthusiastic, though it looks like she might be getting caught in the middle of a struggle for Sanditon between those like Mayor Tom Parker, who wants to turn the town into a health and fitness resort, and others like ice cream parlor owner Clara Breton, who wants to preserve the town as it is. Both sides seem friendly to Gigi, though complications and competition are sure to loom on the horizon.

‘Welcome to Sanditon’ background:

Welcome to Sanditon is based off Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, The Brothers, which is more commonly known as Sanditon. While the novel was unrelated to Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, the Lizzie Bennet Diaries team decided to use the character of Gigi Darcy to enable the series to act as a spin-off.

When Hypable interviewed Lizzie Bennet Diaries showrunner Bernie Su about Sanditon, he told us that “We’re not going to try to finish the book for Jane Austen, we’re going to construct the world.”

Welcome to Sanditon may have been officially launched today, however a lot has been going on within the fandom for the well-informed fan. Last week we saw a teaser for the series, showing Gigi Darcy on her way to Sanditon, California. This teaser inspired fans to get truly involved in the series, creating social media accounts for their own fictional characters and businesses, in order to roleplay along with the series.

The new transmedia elements can be tricky, so make sure to read our guide on how to tell the official from the fan-made. If you are planning on participating in the transmedia fun, make sure to leave the details of your Twitter/Tumblr accounts in the comments, so that your fellow Hypable readers can find you.
