If you thought Pokémon was everywhere now, just wait until a deal is made for a live action film.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, Pokémon GO is kind of a big deal. Like, it’s bigger than Tinder and has added $75 billion to Nintendo’s market value. Which is exactly why a live action version of the story has once again become a topic of discussion.

According to Deadline, Legendary Pictures is closing in on a deal for the rights to make such a film.

Details are pretty non-existent at this point, considering the deal has yet to be made, but if Pokémon GO’s recent hype is anything to go by, the movie will get made, by one person or another. Capitalizing on a time when the app’s popularity is through the roof is logical, and the game is bound to only get more popular and addictive once additional updates roll out and the glitches and crashes become a thing of the past.

It sounds like a ridiculous idea, making a realistic film about Pokémon, but with today’s technology and the franchise’s large and dedicated fanbase, this could turn out to be a hugely popular video game adaptation. It’ll depend heavily on the script, the actors, and the quality of the CGI used on the Pokémon.

Video game adaptations have been notorious for flopping at the box office, though there has been a recent surge in their popularity. Of note, we’ll be getting a new Tomb Raider adaptation come 2018, which will star Alicia Vikander.

Striking a deal for a live action Pokémon movie just makes sense at this point, but we’ll have to see if popularity holds out and a studio is confident enough that their adaptation will attract both fans of the franchise and newcomers alike.
