We’re finally getting to hear Batman’s new theme in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it’s not from Hans Zimmer, it’s from his fellow composer Junkie XL.

Why was it not penned by Hans? It looks like the composer passed it off to Junkie XL since Hans created the Batman theme for The Dark Knight trilogy. Now we have our first listen of Junkie XL’s take on Batman for Dawn of Justice which you can hear below:

The theme sounds good enough. It doesn’t quite have the impact that The Dark Knight one did, but it’s difficult to know how good it will be until we see Batman in action with the theme. There’ve been a few Batman themes, so we’ll be curious to see if this one becomes as iconic as the last one.

As for Hans Zimmer, he created the Superman theme in Man of Steel, and it was very well-received. We hope that Dawn of Justice has one epic score since Hans Zimmer is taking care of the rest of the film. He rarely lets us down, so we look forward to possibly hearing a theme for Wonder Woman as well.

In related news, today the tracklist for the film’s score appeared online:
