TMZ is reporting that Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington is dead at the age of 41 after what appears to be a suicide.

“Law enforcement sources tell us the singer hanged himself at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County. His body was discovered Thursday just before 9 AM,” TMZ reports.

The report was confirmed by the Associated Press with the Los Angeles Coroner.

Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda also confirmed the news on Twitter:

In May, Linkin Park paid tribute to Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, who committed suicide earlier this year. Linkin Park was in the midst of promoting their latest album One More Light at the time of Cornell’s passing. Cornell and Bennington were very close — today would’ve been the former’s 53rd birthday.

The singer has battled with drug and alcohol abuse over the years. He is survived by six children from two marriages.
