Lindy West’s best-selling memoir Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman is becoming a series on Hulu starring SNL cast member, Aidy Bryant.

The Hulu series, also called Shrill, will be six episodes and is based on West’s memoir, executive produced by Lorne Michaels and Elizabeth Banks. Bryant will not only be starring in the show, but she will also be writing the series alongside Lindy West herself and Alexandra Rushfield.

According to Variety, the series will begin filming this week in Portland, Oregon. And for those worried that SNL will be losing Bryant as a cast member, fret not. Variety also reports that Bryant will continue being a regular SNL cast member in addition to her work on Shrill.

The series is, of course, based on the stories found in West’s memoir, and will tell the story of a young woman trying to make it as a journalist while also balancing working for a perfectionist boss and dealing with not-so-great boyfriends. Despite all of her hard work, she realizes that the world sees her as not good enough, simply because of her weight. Bryant’s character realizes that she’s more than good enough just as she is, and begins to live her life empowered by that confidence.

Lindy West is a real-life inspiration for many individuals with her insightful writing paired with her dedication to body positivity. It’s so exciting to see her story told onscreen and to have a television series come to a major streaming service with top celebs backing the project that celebrates fat bodies.

There is no official premiere date on Hulu’s Shrill yet, but we’ll be watching for more developments on this awesome and important new show.
