The first full trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, featuring Daniel Day-Lewis as Honest Abe, has been released.

After much build-up, including a trailer for the trailer, DreamWorks has finally lifted the veil on the full trailer, which you can view below.

In addition to Day Lewis, the film features an absolutely massive ensamble cast including Sally Field (Forrest Gump), Tommy Lee Jones (No Country for Old Men), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (50/50), Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild), James Spader (Boston Legel), John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone), Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Art Thou?), David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck), Walton Goggins (The Bourne Identity), Lee Pace (The Fall), Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) and David Oyelowo (The Last King of Scotland). Spielberg has certainly amassed an impressive cast to round out the host of other historical figures who play a prominent role in the events surrounding Lincoln.

With a limited relase date set for November 9, before it expands nationwide the following week, Lincoln focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

Just looking over the trailer briefly for an image, it seems a little – underwhelming. That said, it’s unfair to judge a movie from a trailer alone, and there is clearly talent aplenty involved with the film. But to be an Oscar-contender this or any year, Lincoln should have to rely on more than just the talent involved. That said, War Horse was nominated for several Oscars, including Best Picture, last year.
