Lin-Manuel Miranda and In The Heights director Jon M. Chu surprised some high school students when they showed up to watch their production.

Miranda and Chu attended the performance at New York’s George Washington High School on Friday, May 31, as they are currently in the area for rehearsals on the film adaptation of In The Heights.

Chu posted a video to Twitter of Miranda going up on stage after the kids finished their curtain call. Miranda bowed down in awe of their performance.

“We saw In The Heights in the Heights for the first time, with kids from all over the neighborhood. It’s cool I only cried 10 times. These kids were so good. Our future is so bright,” Miranda said in his tweet.

Quiara Alegría Hudes, who wrote the screenplay for the adaptation of In The Heights, was also in attendance with Chu and Miranda, as she also tweeted out praise for the students. “These students were pure life and energy, and the local audience laughed at different lines than the Broadway audience,” she said. “#InTheHeights was alive as it’s ever been last night at George Washington HS and gratitude is the name of my day.”

In The Heights is slated to hit theaters on June 26, 2020. Daphne Rubin-Vega, Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black), Anthony Ramos and Corey Hawkins are the currently announced cast starring in the film adaptation.
