Lin-Manuel Miranda, Sam Rockwell, Michelle Williams, and Thomas Kail are teaming up for a new FX series called Fosse/Verdon.

It’s a pretty great time to be a theater nerd these days. With Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in theaters, a cinematic remake of Cats headed our way, and rumors of a recorded performance of Hamilton headed to the big screen, there’s a lot to be excited about. Turns out, there’s even more good news: a new limited-run series for FX called Fosse/Verdon chronicling the romantic and creative partnership between theater royalty Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon.

As The Hollywood Reporter states, Sam Rockwell is set to play Fosse and Michelle Williams will play Verdon. Dear Evan Hansen’s Steven Levenson will serve as showrunner as well as the writer for the series’ pilot, which will be directed by Thomas Kail. Kail, Levenson, Miranda, Rockwell, Williams and George Stelzner are serving as executive producers for the series.

Nicole Fosse, the daughter of Fosse and Verdon will also be serving as co-executive producer to help oversee the story and protect her parents’ legacy. As she said in a statement released to THR, “My mother and father have one of the greatest love stories ever known. They were extremely complex people with an indestructible bond, loyalty and trust that endured both fantasy and reality. Finally, we have a creative team with the talent and wisdom to tell the story.”

Bob Fosse was a filmmaker and one of the most influential choreographers and directors on Broadway, while Gwen Verdon was one of the greatest dancers on Broadway. The two of them made a lasting impact on the American entertainment industry, often at a great personal sacrifice. Fosse/Verdon is based on Sam Wasson’s biography, Fosse, and will explore their romance and their rise to Broadway immortality.

Production on Fosse/Verdon is set to begin this fall, and the show is currently slated for a 2019 premiere.
