Alan Menken has officially confirmed Lin-Manuel Miranda’s role on Disney’s upcoming live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

It’s no secret that Hamilton mastermind, Lin-Manuel Miranda is set to play a major role in the production of Disney’s upcoming live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

In fact, fans of both Miranda and Disney in general have known for months that the Tony Award winner would be teaming up with famed composer Alan Menken to create songs for the upcoming live rendition of The Little Mermaid.

Even so, it seems as though neither Miranda nor Menken have full-on confirmed Miranda’s role on the highly anticipated project… that is, until now.

During an appearance at Disney’s D23 Expo, Menken confirmed that he would be collaborating with Miranda on new music for the film, set to be a reimagined take on the hit 1989 animated classic.

“For the live action Little Mermaid, I’m writing additional songs with lyrics by Hamilton and Moana songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda,” said Menken according to EW.

While this isn’t something we didn’t already know, it’s nice to hear the actual words come out of Menken’s mouth. Given Menken’s history with both Disney and the original Little Mermaid, and Miranda’s love for the 1989 entity, we’re convinced this is bound to be a match made in heaven!

Additionally, we’re hoping that now that Menken has “officially” confirmed that he’ll be teaming up with Miranda to create new songs, that means the pair are almost ready to hit the studio together.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Menken mentioned that production on the music side of things was getting off to a slow start. That’s because Miranda’s been tied up with working on Mary Poppins Returns.

Now that filming has wrapped on Poppins, however, we’re hoping Lin’s gearing up to get to work on The Little Mermaid. And of course, we’re also crossing our fingers that he updates us via Twitter along the way!
