Because Hamilton and Mary Poppins and Moana isn’t enough for him, everyone’s favorite person, Lin-Manuel Miranda, is taking on a new project.

The Kingkiller Chronicle is a trilogy of fantasy novels by Pat Rothfuss, which follows Kvothe, an adventurer and famous musician, as he tells the story of his life to the Chronicler, Devan Lochees.

The three books are The Name of the Wind, The Wise Man’s Fear, and The Doors of Stone, the latter of which is just a working title, as it hasn’t been published yet.

According to The Wrap, Lionsgate and Miranda will develop an “ambitious” film and television adaptation of the series.

Not only will Miranda produce, but he’ll also be doing what he does best — musical composition. He’ll write original songs for the adaptation and apparently has also optioned the story for the stage.

Lindsey Beer, who will also be writing an upcoming Dungeons & Dragons adaptation, will be writing the script for the feature film, which will be based on the first book.

The television series will go outside the books to “expand on the world” further, and both Miranda and Rothfuss will be working together to develop new characters and storylines for the show.

It sounds like Lionsgate is working on getting ahead of shows like Game of Thrones by developing both a movie and television series adaptation, working to expand the world ahead of time instead of looking to develop a spinoff after the series has already been established.

It certainly is ambitious.

Miranda says he’s read and re-read the series multiple times and is a huge fan of the work. “It’s a world you want to spend lifetimes in, as his many fans will attest,” Miranda explains. “Pat also writes about the act of MAKING music more beautifully than any novelist I’ve ever read. I can’t wait to play a part in bringing this world to life onscreen.”

It only makes sense, then, to have someone like Miranda writing the music for such a series based off the life and adventures of a musician.

Given the ambition of such an adaptation, and Miranda’s extremely full schedule, there’s no telling how long it’ll be until we see such a project come to life.
