Lin-Manuel Miranda will leave Broadway’s Hamilton in July. Fans are panicking, and ticket prices are out of control.

Have you always wanted to see Hamilton on Broadway, imagining that one day you’ll have the money, the time, and the luck involved to travel to NYC to see Lin-Manuel Miranda and the rest of the cast perform what is quickly becoming one of the most iconic musicals in history?

Well, yesterday a lot of us had to wave goodbye to that dream, because although Hamilton will continue on Broadway, as well as heading on a West Coast tour, it’ll be without its star and creator.

We learned yesterday that Lin-Manuel Miranda, extraordinarily busy after his rise to fame, is reportedly departing the show on July 9. He’s moving on to do Mary Poppins and Moana, and may possibly also be developing a new musical.

Miranda has also shared his thoughts on the likelihood of Hamilton ever being filmed for mass distribution. And while he thinks it’ll happen eventually, he doesn’t think it’ll be for another 20 years — so that would probably be with a different cast, too.

The news of his departure, as well as the super short notice, has sent fans into a panic. The Wrap reports that Ticketmaster is currently selling July 9 tickets for $9,998.96 apiece; even back in the mezzanine, seats are going for $9,143.98 each.

We’d actually caution that, if you’ve got tickets for one of the final shows, maybe don’t advertise it too loudly. ? Hamilton fans are the best people in the world, but not everyone in the business of ticket scamming are Hamilton fans.

Head over to Ticketmaster to see if any tickets are still available, if you’re interested! They’re going fast, although at least the sharp rise in prices has put us mere mortals out of the running.
