Heads up Hamilton fans! There are new Hamiltunes coming from Lin-Manuel Miranda and a few really awesome collaborators! The first song is out now

Original story: It’s been a year since The Hamilton Mixtape made its way into the world and as much as we’ve enjoyed having the album on repeat, the one thing fans have been wondering about is when we’ll be able to get our hands on The Hamilton Mixtape Volume 2.

Back in November of last year, Lin-Manuel Miranda revealed that plans were currently underway to bring fans a second installment of the mixtape series. Now, it seems as though those plans have changed, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be getting more Hamilton goodness coming our way!

Miranda took to Twitter to let fans in on new plans to bring Hamilton-inspired music to life, and the announcement is bound to make anyone itching for more incredibly excited.

“SOME REQUIRED READING ON THE HAMILTON MIXTAPE & NEW HAMILTON MUSIC (strap in, I’m using the tweet storm thing),” began Miranda. “A year ago this month we released the Hamilton Mixtape. It was the culmination of so many dreams come true. Every artist, every interpretation represented the original impulse I had for this story, even before this thing was a musical. I know I promised you a Hamilton Mixtape Vol. 2, but nothing is gonna match those songs in that order, beautifully sequenced by @jperiodBK, at that moment in December 2016.”

“ALL THAT BEING SAID…I STILL HAVE ALL THIS DOPE NEW SH*T TO SHARE WITH YOU. So today, we begin THE HAMILDROPS. We’re gonna drop some new Hamilton content, every month, December NOW through December 2018,” continued Miranda.

A whole year of new Hamilton tunes once a month every month trough next December? That certainly sounds like the gift that keeps on giving!

From there, Miranda went on to give us some insight into the first installment of #HAMILDROP, which features a collaboration with Portland indie rockers, The Decembrists.

“Something new, every month. Let’s begin! December’s #HAMILDROP. ‘member how I said I once wrote some Decemberists-esque lyrics for a Ben Franklin tune, but never set ‘em to music? So I sent the lyrics to @ColinMeloy. He’s in @TheDecemberists. And HE set it to music as only he and his crew can. It absolutely blew me away. I went BACK to write n ew lyrics for a bridge for him. He took it to @Decemberists & they brought Ben Franklin to life,” tweeted Miranda. “So enjoy BEN FRANKLIN’S SONG. Music by The Decembrists, Lyrics by yours truly. Like the rest of you Hamilfans, we’re definitely looking forward to seeing what Miranda and The Decembrists have cooked up together. Additionally, we’ll be looking forward to seeing who else he’s been collaborating with in secret as more #HAMILDROPS are unveiled over the course of the next year!
