The Limitless pilot premiered at SDCC, and you don’t want to miss this show in the Fall. Check out our spoiler free review for more.

Limitless begins where the movie of the same name left off, and introduces us to Brian Sinclair, a slacker who hasn’t done much with his life. Things change for Brian once his dad becomes ill. This leads Brian to meet an old friend who introduces him to a drug called NZT and the adventure begins from there.

Once Brian, played by Jake McDorman of Greek fame, enters the world of NZT, nothing in his life is the same. He is accused of murder and forms a bond with FBI Agent Rebecca (Jennifer Carpenter). The two work to prove Brian’s innocence, and Brian struggles with the side effects of NZT.

The pilot has a unique feel, as it tries to reconcile the two sides of Brain’s character and show what it’s like to be on NZT. The show uses visual cues such as Brian wearing baggier clothes when he isn’t on NZT to indicate the disorganization in Brian’s life. It also uses multiple Brians in scenes to portray how his thinking works when he is on NZT.

Jake McDorman is great as Brian Sinclair. He can balance the slacker vibe perfectly with the more active NZT version of himself, and — importantly — is believable in both of these roles. Jennifer Carpenter is a strong female in a predominantly male pilot. She stands up for what she believes is right and works with Brian even when others think he is guilty. Her character has her own secrets and has come across NZT in her personal life.

The movie starred Bradley Cooper as Eddie Morra, and he makes a guest appearance in the pilot to help Brian find his way in the world while using NZT. Cooper is an executive producer on the show, so it is entirely possible he could appear on the show from time to time going forward, in order to reprise his role.

Limitless will air this Fall on CBS.
