Lily-Rose Depp is gearing up to share the screen with The Weeknd as part of a new drama series coming down the pipeline at HBO.

According to Deadline, actress Lily-Rose Depp (Voyagers, Silent Night) has officially signed on to star in The Idol on HBO.

Co-created by recording superstar The Weeknd (whose real name is Abel Tesfaye) and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, The Idol was first announced to be in development back in June of this year.

The series is set to center on a female pop singer “who starts a romance with an enigmatic LA club owner who is the leader of a secret cult.”

For her part, Depp has reportedly snagged a leading role, though HBO has yet to specify whether that means she’ll be playing the pop star in question.

As for Tesfaye, in addition to working on The Idol behind the scenes, he’s also set to star in the forthcoming drama as well. As with Depp, Tesfaye’s role in the series has not yet been specified.

Others involved behind the scenes on the project include The Weeknd’s producing partner, Reza Fahim, in addition to Joseph Epstein, who will serve as writer and showrunner on the series.

Executive producers on the project include Levinson, Tesfaye, Fahim, Epstein, Ashley Levinson, Kevin Turen, and Aaron L. Gilbert.

Currently, there’s no word on when we might expect to see The Idol starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd debut via HBO.
