Based on shows like Scandal and Arrow, we make recommendations to check out eight new television shows premiering this fall.

Whether very liberally adapted, as in the case of Selfie, premiering on ABC, or nearly identical to its source material – Gracepoint, on FOX – there is some resemblance of entertainment of years past in this fall’s crop of new shows.

Every year, shows usually have promising debuts, but unfortunately, many can become major disappointments. One way to circumvent this pain for all those involved – the show’s cast and crew, and its fans – no matter how many, is to resemble well-established shows (and some movies).

There are more comic adaptations this fall, as well as a prequel of sorts, to Batman. Of course, we are also eagerly anticipating How To Get Away With Murder, created by Peter Nowalk, and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes through her ShondaLand production company – which is also responsible for addicting shows such as Scandal and the seasoned Grey’s Anatomy.

While we think all of these shows have promise, it will be interesting to see which will gain a strong foothold with fans and viewers early on, and therefore will be more likely to last the entire season. Alternatively, of course, some new shows may completely flop and not make it past October sweeps.

By saying to a friend, “oh, I know you’re really into [show title], you should definitely give [similar show] a shot!” you can persuade them to start watching the latter show and bam! You have another person you can freak out to when the show kills off a character or ends on a cliffhanger or finally puts your OTP couple together.
