For its final week, the show is pulling out all the stops to engage its fans!
Tuesday, May 2, as most demigods know, is the release of Rick Riordan’s latest book about Camp Half-Blood, The Trials of Apollo: The Dark Prophecy. The folks behind the musical are teaming up with Books of Wonder (NYC’s best indie children’s bookstore) to bring the book to fans.
On May 2, Books of Wonder will set up a pop-up shop at the Lucille Lortel Theatre to sell copies of The Dark Prophecy for $19.99. And anyone who has a ticket to see the show can buy a copy signed by Rick Riordan himself.
Wednesday, May 3, is PJO Cosplay Night, digitally hosted by yours truly. Fans are encouraged to buy $39.50 tickets using the code “LTFANDAYS,” and show up to the theatre in their best Percy Jackson cosplay! Dust off your orange t-shirts, and dress as your favorite demigod (or even god, if you’re feeling powerful). Or you can try to imitate the costumes in the musical, designed by Sydney Maresca.
Everyone involved in the musical is really excited about this. In the interview we did with composer Rob Rokicki, he said, “I love when the fans dress up in costume, it’s really exciting.”
Chris McCarrell (Percy) told us, “Every night in the opening I say, ‘So if you think you are a half-blood’ to the audience and I mean it. Sometimes I see kids who are maybe putting it together for the first time. But other times I see full-blown demigods sitting out there. I love that people feel like they can come and be understood. So might as well be loud about it. We surely are.”
No Cosplay Night is complete without a costume contest. Fans should submit their photos on Twitter with the hashtag #TLTCosplay. The winner, selected by this writer (pictured below, middle left), will receive a poster signed by Rick Riordan.
Thursday, May 4, is Fandom Mash-up Night. The musical makes it clear that Percy is a Star Wars fan, so the show will be celebrating Star Wars Day, aka May the Fourth be with you. Fans can post photos of their best fandom mash-ups at the theatre – not just Star Wars, but any fandom. Fans should use the hashtag #YerAJediPercy, and one will win another poster signed by Rick Riordan.
