A deleted song from Disney’s Frozen has been brought to life as a music video starring Mary Kate Wiles.

The musical number, titled “Life’s Too Short,” is set during Anna and Elsa’s reunion at the ice castle. The sisters are initially happy to see each other, but the song soon becomes a confrontation when Anna’s expectations clash with Elsa’s reality.

“Life’s Too Short” is undeniably catchy, but the song is charged with an anger and resentment which was conveyed quite differently in the final cut of Frozen. The reunion scene was ultimately set to a moodier reprise of “For the First Time in Forever,” which emphasizes Anna and Elsa’s desire to protect each other and directs Elsa’s anger inward, rather than at Anna.

The music video was produced by the creative team at Geekiarchy, as part of their “Deleted Disney” series. Spearheaded by founder Ginny DeGuiseppi, who plays Elsa in “Life’s Too Short,” the Deleted Disney music videos revive cut songs from beloved animated films. In addition to Frozen, songs from Hercules and The Little Mermaid have been reimagined so far.

Playing Anna in “Life’s Too Short” is Mary Kate Wiles, who is best known for her breakout performance as Lydia Bennet in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. A fixture in the creative webseries scene, Wiles also posted a vlog today from behind the scenes of the collaboration.

Frozen has been in the news lately – not that it ever really left – with the recent announcement that a sequel to the blockbuster film is currently in development. In addition, the short film Frozen Fever recently debuted with the live-action adaptation of Cinderella, and Disney’s plans for the Frozen stage musical will have the show hitting Broadway by 2017.

So while Disney may have cut “Life’s Too Short” from Frozen, they are certainly taking the message to heart.
