I am so happy that there’s a new Kylie Scott book in the world, and this perfect stand-alone is one you definitely don’t want to miss. Especially if you’re ready for a little action in your romance.

I love me a good action-comedy, whether it’s a book, a movie, or a really good commercial. Getting to add a very sexy romance to the equation really hits all my bases. That’s why I am comfortable labeling Lies by Kylie Scott the perfect romance novel for the action movie fan in your life.

Because while this has all the classic markers of a great romance, it also has all the wonderful tropes of a great action movie and those are two things I never get tired of seeing join up for a freaking awesome story.

Betty is totally over her relationship. Thom just isn’t treating her the way she deserves. She has taken off her engagement ring, written him a letter full of solace, packed up her belongings and is ready to start herself down the path to the kind of love she deserves. And then her life takes a turn for the crazy with a serious BOOM! Turns out there’s way more to Thom than Betty ever imagined.

There are so many things I love about Kylie Scott romances, and Lies has all of them in spades, but this time we get the added bonus of all the fun that comes with stories of spycraft. We get the fantastic banter and the biting sarcasm and all the delightful sexy times we’ve come to love, but with the added bonus of explosions and top-secret information and an intriguing mystery to unravel before the end.

I’ve read some romantic suspense, and as a lover of all things mystery and romantic, they usually tick most of my boxes. As an avid action movie fan, the idea of an action romance, where we’d get the added bonus of spy-level intrigue and secret bunkers and things had me more excited than ever before. I hope this isn’t the only action romance I get to read. In fact, I would be ecstatic if more authors would use action romance as a way to broaden their sub-genre horizons.

Who doesn’t cheer when Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock start making out in Speed? Who wasn’t holding their breath as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt tried to kill each other in Mr. and Mrs. Smith? Who isn’t secretly hoping that James Bond will finally get his truly happy ending and run off with the girl of his dreams? Action as a movie genre has a long history of weaving romance into its plot lines, so it only makes logical sense that action romance would absolutely work as a sub-genre, too. Especially the way Kylie Scott writes it.

And let’s face it, the only thing that would make the wonderful world of romance even more wonderful would be explosions and shootouts and complicated storylines about enemy agents finding common ground and partners falling in love. Who wouldn’t want to read those kinds of stories?

So, I really hope this isn’t the last action romance to come from Kylie Scott. Thom and Betty may have started out their relationship as a lackluster couple, but it’s clear by the end that their actual chemistry is off the charts, you know, once Thom is actually being himself and treasuring his lady in all the right ways.

This story is hilarious and thrilling, surprising and emotionally fulfilling. It’s romance in all its best forms, and that is why I will be recommending Lies to any and everyone I can. I don’t know if any other characters in this book will ever get stories, but I would be happy to see all the ways in which secret agenthood can affect a relationship. There’s one agent specifically I would be happy to see more from.

I’ll just be sitting over here, holding my breath that Bear pokes and prods at author lady’s mind. He’s just the right kind of persistent little shit that he may just require his story to be told. Plus, then we’d undoubtedly get a chance to check in on Thom and Betty and make sure Lies‘ hero is providing his lady with all the orgasms he ever kept from her.

Lies is available now! Get your hands on a copy from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or Book Depository, and make sure to add it to your Goodreads as well!
