One Direction’s Liam Payne has announced that he’s signed a solo record contract, adding yet another nail to the boy band’s coffin.
Following Zayn Malik’s departure in 2015 and the news last month that Harry Styles had signed his own solo contract, Liam Payne has announced that he too is going solo. The singer made the news official on Twitter Thursday morning:

It’s no secret that One Direction is going on a break (and/or breaking up permanently), and Liam’s announcement is just another reminder that the formal breakup of the band is indeed upon us. Zayn has had a lot of success so far in his solo career thanks to his debut solo album Mind of Mine, and we expect most of One Direction will enjoy similar success once they release their own projects.
One Direction’s last album was Made in the A.M.. It was released last year following the departure of Zayn.
