The Hunger Games: Mockingjay co-star Liam Hemsworth has been offered the lead role in Independence Day 2.

The upcoming 20th Century Fox project recently made the offer to Hemsworth, who will promote the fourth and final film in The Hunger Games series later this year. Perhaps the actor will be tempted by Independence Day 2 as he ponders his career post-Gale.

Fantastic Four star Michael B. Jordan is also rumored to have a role in the new movie, which is supposedly titled ID Forever (maybe Hemsworth can talk the studio in a title change if he signs the contract).

The offer comes in light of the news that Will Smith, the star of the original Independence Day in 1996, will not be returning for the sequel. Despite this, original stars Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are expected to return.

Independence Day 2 will be directed by Roland Emmerich, who helmed The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow, Godzilla, and the original Independence Day). In comments made over a year ago, Emmerich said that the film will be set 20 years in the future (present day).

Plans are also in the works for a threequel, which Emmerich is also attached to. There’s no word yet if Hemsworth is being offered Independence Day 3.

Would you see an ‘Independence Day’ sequel led by Hemsworth?

Independence Day 2 opens in theaters June 24, 2016. If Hemsworth signs on, it’ll be the biggest lead role of his career.
