Les Misérables will be returning to Broadway in spring 2014, the production team announced today.

Les Misérables will begin previews at the Imperial Theater on March 1, 2013, and the official opening night is set for March 23.

Said original show producer Cameron Mackintosh about today’s announcement, “I feel really blessed that not only has my new production of Les Miserables been embraced by audiences and critics alike, even more fervently than the original, but Phil Smith and Bob Wankel of The Shubert Organization have kindly arranged for me to bring Cosette back to her spiritual home on Broadway, the Imperial Theatre. This magnificent theatre has the perfect blend of scale and intimacy for a story like Les Miserables, and I can’t wait to put together a brilliant company to bring this great musical to new generations of Broadway audiences.”

Les Misérables’ original Broadway run took place beginning March 12, 1987 at the Broadway Theatre. It moved to the Imperial three years later and ran until May 2003. Through the entire Broadway span, 6,680 shows were performed.

The adaptation of the classic novel by Victor Hugo has been in the headlines recently thanks to the Les Misérables movie directed by Tom Hooper. The film opened in theaters this past December and went on to gross over $400 million worldwide. It stars Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, and Amanda Seyfried.

Will you see Les Misérables when it returns to Broadway in March 2014, or are you satisfied with all of the adaptations you’ve consumed already?
