Emmy Award winner Lena Waithe has officially booked a guest starring role on NBC’s hit drama, This Is Us!

According to TV Line, The Chi creator Lena Waithe will officially be guest starring on next week’s episode of This Is Us, where she’ll share some screen time with Chrissy Metz’s Kate Pearson.

In next week’s episode, fans will see Kate looking into adding a four-legged friend to the family. While on the hunt for a pet to adopt, Kate will cross paths with Waithe, who will be playing an animal shelter worker who offers up some helpful advice.

So how did Waithe come to land a guest starring role on one of the biggest dramas on primetime? Apparently, she’s great friends with This Is Us screenwriter Kay Oyegun, who put in a good word for the Master of None breakout star.

“We wrote the part and [Oyegun] said, ‘Oh, I think we should give it to Lena,’ and we were like, ‘Oh yeah, of course we should give it to Lena. Because that would make this the coolest story ever,’ Luckily she was able to do it,” said executive producer Isaac Aptaker in an interview with EW.com

Given Waithe’s incredibly full slate, it’s definitely lucky the show was able to land her as a guest star.

Waithe, who won an Emmy last fall for her incredible writing on the “Thanksgiving” episode of Master of None, has been keeping busy these days.

On top of working on her own new series, The Chi, the actress also has a few other projects coming down the pipeline. She’ll be heading to the big screen as part of the cast of Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One in March. In addition, she’s also booked a recurring role in the second season of Netflix’s Dear White People.

We’re excited to see more of Lena Waithe on the big and small screen and can’t wait to see her interact with Kate on next week’s episode of This Is Us!

This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
