Lena Dunham just got some exciting news. The HBO Max series she produces, Generation, has become the first HBO Max pilot ordered to series.

HBO Max has been touting some pretty exciting projects for its forthcoming streaming service, but it has officially announced the first pilot that will get a full series. Generation, a new series from Lena Dunham, has officially snagged that title.

As Variety reports, the show is a 10 episode series that follows a group of high school students as they navigate the choppy waters of growing up. We’ll see the characters explore modern sexuality, test their ideas of life and morality, and the nature of family in the midst of their highly conservative community.

While Lena Dunham serves as producer on the show, Generation was created by 18-year old Zelda Barnz alongside her dad, Daniel Barnz. Daniel Barnz also directed the pilot and serves as one of the show’s executive producers.

Because Generation came from the mind of an 18-year-old person, there’s a unique authenticity that can be brought to the show that might not be there if it came from the mind of someone decades away from their teen years. Lena Dunham herself expressed how amazed she was at Zelda’s creation, and the wonderful way her story was able to come to life in the show with the helpful direction of her father.

“I have fallen head over heels for this brilliant family, who have allowed their 18-year old daughter Zelda to express herself in a way that’s both effortlessly funny and plumbs the depths of the adolescent experience. Daniel’s direction is sensitive and artful and as a producer, Ben is equally committed to rigor and fun. I cannot wait for people to see Zelda’s brilliance come to life and to meet this insanely impressive cast of honest, powerful performers and I’m so excited to be a part of the soon to be juggernaut of HBO Max.”

You can check out the Lena Dunham-produced Generation when HBO Max officially launches next year. The new streamer will officially be available in May of 2020 and will cost $14.99 a month.
